The past few weeks I have had the great pleasure of mixing an album for my super friend Andrew Glassett. Many of you already know his work as “Nolens Volens” and If not, you have probably heard his contributions to “Uzi & Ari” and to “TaughtMe” as well. Those who don’t know Andrew are lucky because you get the chance to explore his tunes anew (lucky fellas). Andrew is one of the most prolific creative persons around. I’m beginning to lose track of the exact number of Nolens Volens albums that he has released in recent years. His spontaneity and constant musical output has always inspired me and left me envious. The last time that I saw a Nolens Volens performance, he had erected a full-scale cubicle onstage, replete with fax machine, computer, printer and coffee mugs. Clad in generic corporate attire, he performed his tunes. During the set he would photocopy items and throw the paper into the crowd. YES.
Today sees the release of the newest Nolens Volens album which is self-titled. Its terrific. The album explores his siblings intimately with each tune written for and inspired by a member of his immediate family. Andrew wrote a 30 minute screenplay depicting his siblings which was performed during his set last night at the official CD release show. I curse the clouds that I was not there.
I hope you might take a second to hear the new Nolens Volens album. So lucky, I am, to have had a hand in it. The below song is one of my favorites. Its called “Mezzokind”
